December is a time of gift giving and family reunions. But it is also a time of getting stuck in traffic, stressing over the long Christmas shopping list, and cramming for work and school deadlines. Personally, the first two weeks of December was super hectic. With final papers, work deadlines, and organizing a writing seminar in the same week, I knew I badly needed a massage. That’s when I was invited to try Isis Spa in Makati, I didn’t need convincing. I was immediately on board.
Named after the Egyptian goddess of healing and beauty, Isis Wellness and Spa offers various types of body and facial massages. It is located at Unit G7, Prince Plaza I, Legazpi St., Legazpi Village, Makati City.
Upon our arrival, we were immediately served with a refreshing and healthy drink: calamansi juice infused with honey, ginger, and lemongrass. After we glugged down our welcome drinks, we were escorted to the massage area. Although the space was a small, I was impressed with its details. There was even a small locker where you can place your things as you get your massage.
I had a 60-minute relaxation massage, which started with a whiff of lavender. I was very lucky because the owner, Merna Brazil, was the one who gave me the massage. It was the best massage I ever had! I have been to many spas–from the low-cost spas like Banahaw to the high end ones like Nurture Spa Village in Tagaytay–but nothing can quite compare to the massage I had in Isis Spa. It’s no surprise as Merna is a physical therapist with many certifications and has worked in Hyatt Hotel in Dubai.
Isis Wellness and also offers sparties (spa parties). During sparties, the place is closed for three hours. Besides the world class massage, the highlight of the sparty is food prepared by Didier Deroue, a French chef, who has worked in five-star hotels. After our massage, Didiere and Merna prepared three dishes for us: pork tenderloin with sliced baguettes and shrimp cocktail with chips.
What I loved most about Isis Spa is that everything seems to be healthy. Merna believes in using organic products. They also use the best oils and facial products such as the Pevonia.
